Services and history
Amal Som, one of our founding fathers, was inspired by the unique community care at the town of Geel in Belgium, where for centuries, families have been taking in individuals with mental illnesses, treating them as part of their households, and integrating them into the community. This tradition has evolved into a well-established system where those with mental illnesses live with local families, receive support and care, and participate in daily life activities. It aims to create a similar support system for individuals with mental illnesses, focusing on providing not just medical treatment but also social support and integration within the community.
By adopting the principles observed in Geel, MANAS could potentially offer a holistic approach to mental health care, addressing not only the symptoms of mental illnesses but also the social and emotional needs of individuals affected by them. This approach emphasizes the importance of community involvement, acceptance, and support in the treatment and recovery process for those with mental health conditions. For More Information on Geel : https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2016/07/01/484083305/for-centuries-a-small-town-has-embraced-strangers-with-mental-illness
