Amal Som Institute of Mental Health (ASIMH) is an autonomous institution dedicated to strengthening community mental health through training, research, and information dissemination. Rooted in decades of grassroots experience, ASIMH works to make mental health care accessible, inclusive, and sustainable, particularly for underserved rural and semi-urban communities in India.

Our mission

The mission of Amal Som Institute of Mental Health (ASIMH) is to bridge the mental health treatment gap in India through community-based, sustainable, and evidence-informed approaches.

  • To strengthen community mental health services by training non-specialists, caregivers, educators, and community members

  • To promote task shifting and task sharing models supported by professional supervision

  • To generate and disseminate reliable mental health information for individuals, institutions, and communities

  • To conduct community-oriented research that informs policy, practice, and mental health planning

  • To foster collaboration among academic institutions, civil society organizations, and international bodies

To create an inclusive and community-driven mental health ecosystem where quality care, knowledge, and support are accessible to all, regardless of geography, socio-economic status, or availability of specialists.
